6 Weeks To Go!

Today I am officially 34 weeks. Only a month and a half left... well hopefully. I am still feeling pretty good but could use more down time. It is hard to relax when my nesting instinct is so strong. Plus sleeping is still a major task for me. Anyone planning to get pregnant should train their bodies ahead of time to sleep on their sides. Not to mention the middle of the night bladder urges.

We had the last of our hospital classes last night. This one was baby food making and cloth diapering. After the class we met a great couple with a three month old. They live in Brunswick and were a great resource for us for local daycares (in case we decide to do a day or two). Always fun to hear what others have gone through.

This picture is from a series that our good friends Wendy and Danielle took. Their website is http://www.soggydogdesigns.com/. We are lucky to have such talented photographer friends!

Thank You All!

Thank you all for a wonderful baby shower this weekend! What a great group of friends and relatives this baby has! Glad we beat the storm too. Thank you to Mom for everything that she did to pull off an amazing shower!

Baby Update

I had an appointment on Wednesday that took about 20 lbs of stress off me. I met with a different mid wife this time (our doctor is still on vacation!). She had a completely different story than the last mid wife I met with. This one said that the baby looks like its a perfect size and not to go by the ultrasound weight which is typically a very rough estimate. She said the ultrasound weight measurements can be off by 2 lbs in either direction. She said a more accurate way to judge the size and "plumpness" is to feel with their hands. She felt my belly to feel the baby and said she thinks Baby Bump is right where he/she should be. Whew! And she said I am measuring right where I should be as far as belly size. So all around good news. She even said I could cancel the ultrasound that the last mid wife wanted me to have.
I will be 34 weeks on Tuesday! Literature says the baby can no longer float around, as its too big. Now the movements are more jabs and kicks and body parts poking out here and there. Its really funny. I think it feels more alien-like now than ever before. Drew thinks the big buldge I keep seeing on my right side is Baby Bump's hockey butt (like his dad).

Pediatrician

Our little one now has a baby doctor. We have an appointment to meet with Bump's pediatrician next week. She is someone I know from the store. She is young and cute- so Drew should like her. Before this whole process, I didn't realize the pediatrician is usually present at the birth. I guess that way they know the ins and outs of their patient from the very beginning.

Nursery Preparation

Drew and I took this ratty old rocker that I bought at an auction and turned it into something I am very pleased to have in our new nursery. The fabric came from down the street at a local quilting shop. Drew helped me get the air compressor going so we could staple the fabric faster (life saver!). It looks really cute all set up in the nursery. Can't wait to be able to sit in it rocking little bubbas!

New Ultrasound Pictures

I had another ultrasound today. Dr. Streeter was a bit concerned because I am measuring small (compared to average) so she wanted to have me go for another ultrasound. It was really fun actually because the baby now looks like a baby instead of an alien. And although the weight is only in the 25th percentile... everything else looks good. My fluid levels were good. The baby's lengths were good. Head size was good (even a bit large). And I got to see the baby yawn- which of course made me cry. Although Drew wasn't able to come to the appointment because of work- Mom made it with me and the technician printed out lots of pictures for Drew and all of you to see. I will post one of them and maybe send some via mail too. Friday I will find out whether or not I need to make diet adjustments to get the weight up.

Calling All Family Tree-ers

So Drew and I have been trying to firm up our name plans for Bump. We have concrete plans for the first name (boy and girl)- sorry not sharing! But we're struggling a bit with the middle names for each side. I was hoping some family members out there (Kelly- heard you might be one of them) might have a family tree handle to throw some ancestral first/middle name suggestions at us. If you have any ideas... just post a comment to this post and I will check them out. Thanks for your help! It would be fun to keep the names in the family.

Appointment Schedule

Last Friday I went for another check-up appointment and to have my glucose tested. For the glucose testing you have to drink this super sugary liquid and wait an hour. The lab then draws blood to test to see if your baby is at risk for gestational diabetes. I guess I will get those test results back when I go for my next appointment.

After the glucose test I met with Dr. Streeter again. She measured my belly, took my blood pressure, and listened to the baby's heartbeat. She said everything looked/sounded great but that my belly was measuring on the small side of average (this will be a shock to my family who thinks my belly is unusually large looking). I was a bit discouraged about the belly measurement news but then after talking to Drew about it cheered up a bit. Like he said, the measurements are all an average... so compared to other American mothers I am just below average. Really that might just mean I was smaller to start with- not that the baby is smaller. But we will find out for sure because Dr. Streeter wanted to schedule another ultrasound.

G Diapers

While reading one of our baby magazines, I discovered a new product called G Diapers. They're a hybrid between cloth and disposable diapers created by this cute young American/Australian couple with two boys. At first I couldn't find them on Target.com or BabiesRUs.com to register for- but now finally both places have them. I was very excited... too excited about diapers really! The diapers have a disposable interior lining that you can either flush, compost, or throw out (and it will decompose in 50 days- unlike traditional disposable diapers which take 500 years!). To learn more check out gdiapers.com.

Goodbye Toes

Just a funny little picture to show you that from my 5'8" perspective I am losing my toes. Getting my shoes and socks on and off is getting harder and harder too.
